The Seven Groups of Show Dogs

Show Dogs are traditionally divided into seven groups:

Sporting Dogs

Dogs especially bred and trained for hunting by
pointing, flushing, and retrieving game

Dogs used by hunters to track or chase prey

Dogs especially trained to perform practical tasks,
such as sledding, pulling, guarding, etc.

Dogs originally bred to hunt for and root out vermin

Small dogs generally bred to be companions

Dogs not classifiable into other groups that perform a variety of functions

Dogs especially trained to herd livestock
